WIP Update April 2018

Hello, happy spring!

I hope you’re all doing well and have had chance to get out in this glorious weather we’ve been having. Obviously it couldn’t last forever, but I feel like the mini heatwave last weekend at least partly compensated for the long and cold winter we had!

We were very lucky, as the glorious weather coincided with our holiday to lovely Tenby in Wales. We had such a lovely time, and I’ve completely fallen in love with Tenby and Pembrokeshire in general!

This post will hopefully see the start of a new series of monthly posts where I do a monthly WIP update. I know I’ve tried to do series before and have always failed, but I’m hoping this one will be different and I’ll actually manage to stick to it!

So I’ll kick this off by talking about Jem Weston’s pattern ‘Ollie Elephant’ from her book The Knitted Nursery Collection. I fell in love with Ollie when mum and I went to the Nottingham Yarn Expo and excitingly I received an Ollie kit along with the book for my birthday.

So far I have found this a really easy project and a lovely item to knit. It’s definitely starting to take an elephant shape and I’m excited to see the finished result!

My other WIP at the moment is the Asklov hat by Nicolina Lindsten from Pom Pom Autumn 2016. You may have seen me bemoaning this hat on Instagram, as whilst I love the pattern, I haven’t really been enjoying knitting it. The twisted rib on the hat band took me forever, and whilst the main part of the hat is knitting up much quicker, I haven’t been enjoying the process that much.

I will persevere with it though, as I really love it, but I think it may be a good call to put it aside for a couple of months and complete some projects which I find more satisfying, preferably with some plain sticking stitch!

So there we go! Hopefully next month I’ll be able to share with you a complete Ollie, and keep an eye out in the meantime for some exciting new knitting projects!

Take care

Julie
